Recap: HMC Orientation Night (9th May 2008)
This post is very long post and I apologise for it being delayed because there is a lot of photographs to go through and a few videos to upload. Brace yourself.
So, what did you miss out?
HMC Orientation Night
9th May 2008
6.30pm ~ 10.00pm.
A lot, I must say. In short, HMC Orientation Night was one of the best nights the people have ever had. Too bad you could not be there, but don’t worry. First of all, I’ll recap you on everything that had happened. Secondly, we have more events coming soon, so do not worry.
Around 180 people came for this event; this includes both lecturers (around 7 of them) and students. People started gathering around 6.30pm and the event began around 7.00pm.
Introducing our emcees for tonight, Abu and Arthur.
Our event started off with a lovely acoustic performance by Alexis who was lovely singing and Angeline on the guitar. They played songs like ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ by Oasis.
This was followed by an awesome dance performed by the Dance Club.
Introducing our part-time emcee, Kiren.
And then, we have our open speech by the Head of the whole HMC Department himself, Mr. Dhanesh.
A token of appreciation by the President of HMC Student Council, Jonathan Lee to Mr, Dhanesh.
After those, we started our first game. The first game is called first impression. Basically, four pairs (one boy and one girl) will try to impress each other by dancing!
Even the President and the Vice President (Jon Lee and Alena) got into the game. Look at them go!
Then we have one of our emcees, Abu and our former President of HMC Student Council, Samantha playing the first impression game.
Of course lastly, we had Ms. Debbie and Mr. Dhanesh dancing. However, we won’t put the photographs up.
Later on, the people were served food. They were enjoying themselves with rice, noodles, chicken and fried wan tan.
With filled stomachs, we had a live band. The band is called ‘From The Top!’ and they played for us songs that night.
We also had a lovely vocal performance by Shera and Kerina. However, Abu, our emcee, joined in with them.
Followed by more games! This game is called Family Game. The rules of the game is simple, we have four people in each team consisting of father, mother, son and daughter. They also have a chair. What they have to do is to follow what the emcees say.
Mama and papa sit on the chair while the son sits on mama’s lap and daughter sits on papa’s lap.
The whole family on the chair.
Then, we had our Fear Factor game.
It started off with the touch game. What they have to do is to put their hands into a black box with no idea what is inside it. Of course, I’ll tell you what it is. Box A contained worms and Box B contained condoms and jelly. Or was it the other way round?
We had the taste game after. Some unlucky contestants were dared into eating weird concoctions. It was a serving of rice with wasabi, chilli padi and a mixture of blended celery, bell pepper (capsicum) and more wasabi.
Lastly in the Fear Factor game, we had the smell game. They have to guess what foul smelling things they were sniffing. We had cinnamon, pepper, fermented pickle and coffee.
We also dared Mr. Joel who was supportive enough to eat the serving of disgusting and hot food.
The bullying does not end there. The emcees dared Mr. Joel to dance which he refuses. Instead, he showed us some wicked drumming. Amazing drumming skills.
Then we had an encore performance by Kerina.
And we also had an encore performance by ‘From The Top’ which played cover songs like ‘Give Me Novocaine’ and ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ by Green Day.
Before our closing act, we had a lucky draw. Lucky winner won free tickets to watch a movie, Golden Class.
Our closing act was a dance performance by Francis who had mad moves.
After all the games, food and performances finished, it did not end there. The dance floor was opened. The first song was a ‘Umbrella’ cover by Kerina and Shera followed by a cocktail mixture from Abu’s playlist.
Even Mr. Radin himself joined the open dance.
All of those who had fun.
That’s what you have missed. I had a great time and I’m sure the rest of them had. Pictures to prove.
Anyways, there are more photographs in the Media section. Furthermore, we also now have Videos! See our HMC Student Council President, Jon Lee dance! Once in a lifetime recorded for repeated viewing.
That is all, Eugene out.
