Review: Made of Honor & Get Smart

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

It had been a humourous weekend for me. I watched two movies of the humour genre. Remember, you might have your own opinion towards the movie.

Release Date: 19 June 2008
Classification: U (PG)
Language: English
Running Time: 1 hour 45 minutes
Director: Paul Weiland
Cast: Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Monaghan.

Rating: 2/5

Made of Honor is a comedy romance movie which is very similar to a 1997 movie called ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’. Well, I haven’t watched ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, but I have read its synopsis, and I tell you, both movie are almost similar.

In terms of storyline, Made of Honor is too cliched. It can be easily predicted, and it is no fun if you know what’s to come. Many movies have used this storyline as a side romance story, incorporated with a twist. However, to based the whole story on this storyline, with one twist, a very predictable twist, does not make it as interesting.

The only thing I like about this movie is the humour which is shown by Tom, the main character of the movie and also all the innuendos. It could use some improvements, but it was the only thing which I enjoy. Without it, the movie would be dry so I’m glad the had a decent script.

Release Date: 19 June 2008
Classification: U (PG)
Language: English
Running Time: 1 hour 51 minutes
Director: Peter Segal
Cast: Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Terence Stamp, Alan Arkin, Masi Oka.

Rating: 3.5/5

Less intelligent than James Bond but more intelligent than Johnny English, comes a spy from an old TV show with the same name, by the name of Maxwell Smart. This movie is filled with action and romance, topping it up with a generous amount of humour. I really laughed.

First, the storyline was unpredictably random. Of course, it’s always the good guys over the bad guys, but for the minor details, it was hard to figure what they’ll be up to next. It’ll leave you wondering: what attics are they up to next? And then, there is the twist. It was much harder to anticipate the twist.

There were some old comical jokes and there were some fresh ones. It got me laughing a lot. The script was written with much hilarity in it. Steve Carell was perfect for the role. He is a comical genious.

However, all in all, it was an ordinary movie which can give you a lot of laughs. There were not much really special effects. If you need a laugh though, this is the movie.

Ola ppl…

This is my very first time blogging. (Gosh I sound like some ulu person only.. SWT!!) To tell you people the truth I just hate blogging for whatever the reason is. Anyway last Thursday a few of us from the Student Council (Jovita, Victoria, Eugene and I) went down to Ruums, KL to watch ” So You Think You Can Dance” Live. The place was pretty packed and it was hot and stuffy as well. Did I mention there were no cute guys.. can you believe that?? SIGHHHH!!! What to do, Ruums is known as the LALA Club. I think I better stop crapping, don’t want to bore anyone by reading this post.

Road Trip #3

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

HEYY ALL…….. ;-) How ya’ll doin?! =) So, mid terms are finally and officially OVER! *BIG SIGH OF RELIEF*

Now’s already the mid of the year (how time flieeess, *sigh* again), AND we still haven’t confirmed which hotel we would like to have our ball at!!! Well, cuz :

1- Remember how much we wanted Renaissance Hotel?? UNFORTUNATELY, they have no available dates for our annual ball!; they’re FULLY BOOKED! They didn’t have the dates that we wanted our ball on.

Sooooo, SCRATCH Renaissance Hotel, and GOODBYE! =…(

2ndly- We’ve kept Shangri-La Hotel in view; it was our SECOND choice. BUUUT, they wouldn’t give us the grand ballroom that we wanted because we HAVE to have more than 500 people! (we’re only targeting maximum 500)

Sooooo, FINE!; SCRATCH Shangri-La Hotel. . . . . . . BUH-BYE to u too

SO and SO, we had another road trip AGAAAIN!!! Since Khai Sim and gang had theirs on their own a few days ago, this’ll be our THIRD road trip ;-) Before imma tell you about it, I wanna first SCREAM- WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE… LOL. call me crazy, but i had like THE BEST, AWESOME-EST road trip (down to Kay EL [yes, again people] ) with VICTORIA and ALLY. this time, it was just us GURLS! NO BOYS ALLOWED!! XP (nolah..they were busy!.. sort off) But anyway, we did another hotel HUNTING!

Hotels that we checked out were :
- Nikko Hotel (we had an appointment with BANU, the Catering Sales Coordinator)
- Westin Hotel
- Federal Hotel
- Sheraton Imperial Hotel

Road Trip #2

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Good Morning! Khai Sim hereeee!

I never thought of blogging this down but Eugene actually reminded me that this whole incident can be considered as one of the side events that happened while we are doing any of our HMC Student Council’s projects.

HAHA! I bet you will give me this -.-” look after reading this post. It’s okay. We were having this look throughout the whole incident too.

Anyway, this was what happened on the 18th of June.

I brought Eugene, Melissa and her room mate from the hostel over to Tmn. Megah’s Ming Tien food court to help out for Melissa’s Gourmet Festival project which will be happening in July (REMEMBER TO SUPPORT, PEOPLE!!! FOOD IS GREAT! I LOVE FOOD, AND I WILL LOVE YOU IF YOU LOVE FOOD TOO! XD)

Sorry for no photos. I always forget to take photos when there’s food around for ME to eat. Most of the time, I get people to do that job. The job as in taking the photos, not the eating. I mean, that’s why we have a photographer in the team, we neeeed Joshua. *Too bad he rarely pass me those photos. Hmpf*

The Blogospheric Project

Monday, June 16th, 2008

HMC Student Council Website is starting a project by the name of The Blogospheric Project. It’s a rather simple project. But first, a definition for those clueless people.

blog·o·sphere
noun. The set of all weblogs on the Internet.

A blog is more than a website these days. It is your own voice. We want you to bring the blogging community in HMC together. This way, we can bring each other closer to one another and exchange your own opinions.

How do you go about doing this?
You simple have to post a comment on this post with the link to your blog. In order to post, however, you need to register on the website. If you refuse to register, just mail me (eugenelow@hmcstudentcouncil.com) the link to your blog.

We might have minor events on the site but we’ll save that for the future. If all goes well, we’ll open it to the whole of HELP.

That is all. Happy Blogging. Eugene out.
