Recap: Lecturers Appreciation Week

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Miss me? Sorry for my absence. I had Midterms and some work to do. Anyways, on with the event.

The Lecturers

This week was Lecturers Appreciation Week for those who did not know. It had been a very hectic week for the preparations and such. The HMC Student Council sold roses, chocolates and message while Joshua went around taking candid shots of lecturers and I went around gathering video dedications. This happened throughout the whole week.

Today, on the 30 May 2008, at 12.30pm, a lunch was organised for the lecturers. Food were brought by the HMC Student Council; a potluck for the lecturers. There were tarts, quiche, sandwiches and fried rice .

After that, the lecturers were asked to head to the Theatrette where we started off with a short movie which I made for the lecturers. It ended after 20 minutes and Victoria gave her short speech. Later, there was a game. The game was charades and the theme was movies and I can tell you that the lecturers are really good actors and really good at guessing.

However, after the charades, Mr. Dhanesh gave a short speech and apologised as he had to leave for something else. The function continued with the giving of roses and chocolates. The cutting of cake for Mr. Levin’s farewell was followed after. The cake was chocolate indulgance.

The event ended there officially, however, the lecturers stuck around for a while to pose for the camera. I guess they had a lot of fun during the event, laughing and being appreciated.

That is all, Eugene out.

Farewell…

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Dear HMC students,

Thank you everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve as your Student Council President for this past five months. I will be leaving because of an overseas scholarship offer.

This past five months was truly a great experience. Running for student council president was challenging to begin with XD. However, I got to know many new faces in HMC after a hard long battle in the poster wars. That’s the most significant part =D

I’ll like to thank everyone in the student council committee for all their co-operation, trust and commitment in the council. Wish I could work with you guys more T__T. You guys are really the best people to work with. Most importantly, thank you for all their guidance throughout the whole semester.

I hope HMC Student Council will do their best in all the upcoming activities. Good luck guys and all the best!! Take care ~~

P/S: Student Council ROX!!

Jon

HMC Student Council President

If you think you are up to the task to take over Jon’s position as President of HMC Student Council, please read the previous post (the post below).

Event: Lectures Appreciation Week

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

What is Lecturers Appreciation Week?
Lecturers Appreciation Week is a week where we, as the name itself says, appeciate our lecturers. Much like its younger sibling, Teacher’s Day, Lecturers Appreciation Week focuses on the lecturers. The spotlights are on them and it’s time to show how grateful we are.

When will it be?
It will start on the Monday, 26th May 2008 and obviously last till the end of the week.

What will be happening on Lecturers Appreciation Week?
There will be sales, tree message board, personal video messages, and so much more to awe your lecturers.

What will we be selling?
We will be selling roses, candles, cards and other various items so you would be able to thank your lecturers by giving a small token of appreciation.

What about this tree message board?
We are going to create a tree with your messages with a small price. The tree will be placed on the message board between Student Council Room to LH7

What about this personal video messages?
Do you have something special to say to your lecturers but you do not dare go up to them? Or how about simple saying a few words to your lecturers? Look no further, we have a video camera which you can record your message and all this will be compiled for the lecturers to view.

To sum it all up, this is HELP-students-give-back, where we give back to the lecturers for all the good things they have done.

Eugene out.

HMC Student Council 08/09.. Finally!

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Finally! All our committee members are selected. Everyone is settled in. Everything is in place. The HMC Student Council 08/09 is ready to roll.

The past week was really busy for us. Handling the preparations for the HMC Orientation Night and making sure everything went well during the 2nd Student Council Election was a real challenge. But I’m relieved everything went smoothly especially for the Orientation Night; our first major event of the year. (Hope you guys had fun dancing last night XD!!)

Anyway, now it’s time to start our preparations for the HMC Annual Ball 2008. We’ll be updating everyone on our preparations for the Annual Ball here. We’ll be needing suggestions on the theme. The theme last year was Black Tie & Diamonds. If you guys have any ideas regarding the Annual Ball, feel free to post your comments. Other than that, if you have any comments on any of our events, you could post it up too =D

Lastly, we hope everyone will support us and help us out with all of our events. Most important, we hope all HMC students will have a great time studying in HELP University College. Thank you and gracias.
